There is an abundance of movements, programs, and initiatives that are working to protect and restore our forests all around the world. Based in Sacramento, California, the Birthday Forest Project plants trees for birthdays and special occasions. This team is small, planting trees in yards all around Sacramento, including San Jose, Campbell, and Santa Clara.
In Africa, the Green Generation Initiative is working to promote environmental consciousness and solutions, making sustainable practices a part of everyday life. They are a fast-growing, youth-led, climate organization that challenges deforestation by propagating and distributing seedlings for reforestation. They collaborate with local communities and help ensure successful planting through land preparation and transportation of all the seedlings.
Trees4Goals started in 2018 by a young soccer player in Kenya, Lesein Mutunkei. For every goal he scores, Mutunkei plants eleven trees to represent each teammate. As of July 2023, Trees4Goals had planted around 5,500 trees in Kenya. This movement powered by youth is an inspiration to people all around the world.
Gen Z for the Trees (Z4T) specializes in researching the drivers of deforestation and targeting the downstream supply chain actors, in hopes of achieving global zero deforestation by 2030. Plant for the Planet started in 2007 when nine-year-old Felix called upon all children to plant one million trees in every country. As of 2023, 100,000 Climate Justice Ambassadors were fighting against deforestation in 76 countries.
